Zachary, 18, traveled cross-country from Michigan to San Francisco to meet his favorite actor and inspiration – Robin Williams.
Zachary and his family arrived in California wearing big smiles and Make-A-Wish® Michigan shirts. The entire day was magical, starting with a drive over the Golden Gate Bridge. During the drive, Zach shared with the Make-A-Wish California Greater Bay chapter that he used to think Arnold Schwarzenegger was his favorite actor until he began watching Robin Williams’ movies. He also shared his passion for becoming an actor himself.
Everyone was getting a little nervous in anticipation to meet Robin, so Zach took a few notes to prepare for his interview. Zach met Robin at an Italian restaurant, because that is his favorite cuisine. Everyone was super quiet before Robin and his assistant arrived and the introductions quickly become relaxed and silly.
Zach shared some of his high school acting stories with Robin, and the two were quickly comparing notes on favorite characters. Robin and Zach are both avid gamers and were off and running on the latest trends. Conversation was natural with one exception. About 30 minutes into the wish, it became a concern that Zach's face might actually hurt from so much smiling.
Robin indeed gave Zach a two-for-one wish and did an awesome impersonation of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also gave lots of anecdotes about making movies, doing so with classically trained actors versus his ad-libbing style.
There were lots of giggles and smiles the whole day and Robin gave everyone in the family a hug before we took some photos of the family by the limo.
