She had just returned home from a typical day at school. Seven-year-old Isabella dropped her backpack and zipped to the backyard. A smile appeared as the play set of her dreams came into view.
“Watching her face light up when she saw her play set in the yard was my favorite highlight,” said Isabella’s mom, Julie. “To have a wonderful childhood memory … the day it was granted was a complete surprise.”
During a prenatal screening, Isabella was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect before she was born. She’s had three open-heart surgeries, several heart catheterizations, speech therapy and countless medical visits.
“Because of her condition, Isabella’s oxygen level is lower than healthy kids her age,” Julie said. “I think the toughest part for her is that she cannot keep up with her peers. She loves gym class but gets tired out very easily.”
Luckily, Isabella can set her own pace while playing on her swing set.
“I love playing outside on my play set,” she said. “My favorite thing to do is swing on my tire swing.”
