Five-year-old Cody was surrounded by super heroes. He was swapping battle moves with the famous idols when Dr. Doom snuck up. Cody sprinted away, in search of his ultimate hero.
He ran to Spider-Man, telling him that Dr. Doom was in the street. Together, Cody and Spider-Man defeated Dr. Doom and locked him up in jail.
“Prior to meeting Spider-Man, Cody would have panic attacks going into large groups, to the doctor and with any procedures he needed,” said Cody’s mom, Heather. “Since he has met Spider-Man and the super heroes, Cody was able to walk into the doctor’s office… He now thinks of himself as a super hero. Not only did Cody get his wish granted, he was given the gift of confidence.”
When Cody was just three weeks old, he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Since he can remember, Cody has undergone daily treatments and many pokes and procedures, which became scary for the young boy.
“He used to have panic attacks in large groups, when you mention a doctor or he saw a hospital,” said Heather.
The strength and confidence of Spider-Man attracted the 5-year-old boy, who sometimes feels isolated when cystic fibrosis makes him ill.
“Cody wants to be Spider-Man,” said Heather. “He dreams about it. You can hear him talk in his sleep that him and Spider-Man are saving the world.”
So, it was no surprise when Cody wished to fight crime with Spider-Man as his wish from Make-A-Wish® Michigan.
“The experience gave my son a new lease on life,” said Heather. “(Make-A-Wish) gives life, hope, dreams and energy back to children who need it most.”
