The studio lights were bright, intense, mesmerizing. The shutter of celebrity fashion photographer Nigel Barker's camera broke through the bustle of the premier Milk Studios in New York City. The model was professional, beautiful, a natural. This, however, was no ordinary supermodel shoot.
Corinne, 19, experienced her heartfelt wish when she flew with her family to New York City to spend the day as a fashion model and have her photos taken by celebrity photographer Nigel Barker. Her wish experience was everything she could have hoped for and more.
"It was a day of hope, a day of many realizations, a day where my sickness didn’t feel like it was chipping away at who I used to be, a day where tons of people came together, just to grant this wish for me," Corinne said.
Corinne was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder in 2015, leading to her being hospitalized for months and missing much of her high school experience, including her senior prom.
At Milk Studios, Corinne had her hair styled and went through full make-up and wardrobe with a celebrity stylist outfitting her in three glamorous looks.
Modeling and taking photos has been a passion of Corinne's since she was young. When she had the opportunity to select a wish, she knew exactly what she wanted to do.
"I grew up obsessed with America’s Next Top Model, my cousins and I would binge entire seasons all summer long. Nigel [Barker] was everything to us!" Corinne said. "I would go out with my friends and we would take pictures all over our town...I loved how you could use expression and personality to make the viewers of the photos feel something, and this is one thing I knew Nigel was a professional at.”
She was an absolute natural in front of the camera. She inspired the whole team with her ability to move and pose so naturally. The photos that she and Barker created together were stunning.
Going to New York, however, was about more than Corinne having her photos taken as fashion model.
"New York made me want to accomplish my goals in life and truly live the best I can,” she said. “I want to be a doctor, and I also want to travel and immerse myself in the world and to me, this wish reassured me that I am capable of absolutely anything."
