Before Simon left for his wish to visit his friends at his former orphanage in China, he started to worry. The 7-year-old wondered if the orphanage would want to take him back.
Simon, who has a hematologic condition that requires regular blood transfusions, wished to visit the former orphanage where he lived and deliver noodles to his friends.
“When he walked in, there were huge cheers for ‘Jun-Jun,’ which is his Chinese name,” Simon’s mom, Katie, recalled about their arrival to the orphanage. “Those sweet faces just lit up to see him, and they couldn’t believe how much he has grown and how healthy he looked.”
The nannies rushed to Simon, hugging and smiling. Katie said they lovingly scolded him for not taking them with him, and stated they did not want to take him back, despite how much they loved him.
His fears about returning to the orphanage were soon replaced with the cheers and laughter of the children as Simon shared a package of noodles with each child. The children at the orphanage were so excited to see Simon and accept the noodles he brought that they started to eat them right out of the package.
“Simon was able to release his long-held fears that (the orphanage nannies) would come steal him from our home and return him to the orphanage,” Katie said. “He was visibly walking out of there with a lighter heart as he waved goodbye one final time. Thank you for giving him this gift. It was priceless in so many ways.”
