Thomas Stephenson of Greenville has been passionate about politics for most of his life. On Tuesday, he was able to take that passion directly to Congress.

Stephenson, 18, has a congenital cardiac condition. Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he was given the opportunity to be "U.S. Senator for a day," accompanying Michigan U.S. Sen. Gary Peters to meetings and on the Senate floor.

WASHINGTON – It turns out not everyone reviles Congress: Some people actually dream of being there.

On Tuesday, 18-year-old Tom Stephenson of Greenville — who has been diagnosed with a congenital heart condition — got to shadow U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., courtesy of the Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic organization, which helps children with critical conditions see their wishes come true.

In name, at least, he got to be "senator for a day."

1,000 cyclists participate in bicycle tour for Make-A-Wish® Michigan

About 1,000 cyclists are expected to raise $2.55 million to help grant wishes for Michigan kids during Make-A-Wish® Michigan’s 31st annual Wish-A-Mile® Bicycle Tour (WAM) July 26-29, 2018.

Nearly 800 riders will travel across Michigan during the three-day WAM 300 tour, which covers 300 miles of Michigan countryside. On July 26, 2018, riders will be transported by bus from the EATON Proving Grounds in Marshall, Mich. to Traverse City.
