Development (Fundraising)

DEVELOPMENT AND SPECIAL EVENTS INTERNSHIP

Location: Grand Rapids Office

Supervisor: Development Officer - West

Description: The events intern will work with the Development Officer – West on external chapter event needs and will aid in the early planning stages of the Grand Rapids Wish Ball. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: sending out appropriate communication to donors, supporting the efforts of the Wish Ball Committee and creating ways to enhance the event experience for guests. The intern will also help in the last minute planning of our Grand Rapids Walk for Wishes event. The event is on Saturday, October 14th at the John Ball Zoo and we would love to have the events intern attend. They will also assist in wrapping up the walk event by helping to plan walker/team captain recognition and appreciation efforts as well as inventory management.


DEVELOPMENT & SPECIAL EVENTS INTERNSHIP

Location: Brighton Office             

Supervisor: Development Officer - East

Description: Every November we host Wish Ball SE, a black-tie gala event that raises money through sponsorships, table sales, ticket sales, raffles, auctions and general donations.  This event is a dinner dance that also incorporates a celebrity entertainer during the evening. This intern would support Make-A-Wish Michigan by conducting follow-up phone calls to companies and donors in regards to table sales and in-kind donations, secure silent auction items and catalog them when they come into the office, use our GreaterGiving software to track all auction and raffle donations by entering item descriptions, values, limitations/restrictions and packaging them together, work with our marketing team to design and print silent auction boards for the table displays, keep RSVP guest list up to date as tickets come in, and attend Wish Ball SE on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the MGM Grand, Detroit.


DONOR RELATIONS & WISH-A-MILE (WAM) SPECIAL EVENTS INTERNSHIP

Location: Grand Rapids Office

Supervisor: WAM Logistics Manager & Leadership Giving Officer - West

Description: Assisting with the planning and logistics of the Wish-A-Mile bicycle tour that will take place in July. Helping with major gifts, administrative work, putting together information and research on donors. Responsibilities may include WAM event research, including enhancements and new ideas for the event. Help with the behind-the-scenes planning of the coming event, including insurance requests, researching hotel rates, etc


WISH-A-MILE (WAM) BICYCLE TOUR SPECIAL EVENTS INTERNSHIP

Location: Brighton Office

Supervisor: WAM Manager, Community & Rider Relations

Description: Working with event participants, sponsors, and volunteers, coordinating event details, documentation and design. Outreach to Young Professional Groups/Community Groups, etc. Personal outreach to riders to recruit back for 2018, Update collateral materials for website, inventory WAM store items and incentive items and other duties as assigned


KIDS FOR WISH KIDS PROGRAM INTERNSHIP

Location: Brighton Office

Supervisor: Development Officer - East

Description: The Kids for Wish Kids program engages kids of all ages, students, youth groups, clubs and organizations in the Make-A-Wish mission. The program provides ideas for kids and teens to raise funds to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions in their community. Kids and teens create ideas for fundraisers and then organize and manage their fundraisers from start to finish.  Opportunities for groups to fundraise for this program are endless! Primary tasks include: Support Make-A-Wish Michigan by conducting outreach phone calls and emails to assist in the recruitment of schools, clubs, and participants. Assist in the intake and review of the Kids For Wish Kids Fundraising Forms from participants in this program and respond to these requests, ensuring participants receive all necessary documents from Make-A-Wish including toolkits, fact sheets, Make-A-Wish collateral, etc. Check in and maintain contact with Kids for Wish Kids fundraisers to ensure successful Kids for Wish Kids events, assist in outreach mailings, and participate in strategic discussions regarding KFWK events with the overall goal of providing quality customer service and meeting specific program goals/objectives.


DONOR STEWARDSHIP INTERNSHIP

Location: Brighton Office

Supervisor: Development Officer - Annual Fund

Description: This intern would be working with the Adopt-A-Wish Program, which matches major donors with a particular child’s wish story to both enhance the child’s wish experience, as well as ensure the donors are realizing the direct impact they are making here in Michigan. This intern will be creating recognition pieces for donors, as well as working closely with wish families to gather information on wish stories. Other stewardship duties may include doing donor research and assisting in tracking of stewardship efforts.

Marketing & Communications

CONTENT MARKETING INTERNSHIP

Location: Brighton Office

Supervisor: Communications and Public Relations Manager

Description: Make-A-Wish Michigan believes wishes are a game-changer in a child's life, promoting the power of a wish through impactful storytelling. The Content Marketing intern will strengthen our mission of granting wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions by curating a strong brand voice that connects with our current audience while reaching new ones. You’ll support the MarComm department, and entire chapter, by: Writing stories for our website, including wish stories and volunteer spotlights; Engaging with newly referred wish families by sending out questionnaires and conducting interviews; Thinking outside the box and seeking out stories about community partners, sponsors or anyone who helps the Make-A-Wish mission in Michigan; Writing content for email campaigns and the spring newsletter; Working with the Social Media Intern to identify strong stories for sharing across multiple platforms; And other duties as assigned. If the intern has a video production background, intern would help to create wish story videos to be used online.

 

MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNSHIP

Location: Brighton Office

Supervisor: Marketing and Brand Manager

Description: This intern will play an active role in the development of Make-A-Wish Michigan’s online community. The intern will work with the Marketing and Brand Manager to maintain Make-A-Wish Michigan’s presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube and LinkedIn as well as help create and publish content that is relevant to our community. He/she will regularly analyze and report on the activity on social media networks. He/she will also assist in maintaining Make-A-Wish Michigan’s archive of digital images, videos and other content. The intern will learn how to reach communities and promote events and programs through the Internet and gain experience in social media platforms and the tools used to assess their performance.
